Overview
Pink noise rolls off at 3 dB per octave, giving equal energy in each octave band. That matches how the auditory system groups frequencies, so pink noise sounds balanced rather than bright.
It is also close to the long-term spectrum of many natural sounds - rainfall, distant water, wind - which is one reason it feels familiar rather than synthetic.
